- For U.S. stocks, the ticker is typically used without an exchange suffix (e.g., AAPL for Apple Inc.).
- International stocks often include an exchange suffix (e.g., PETR4.SA for Petrobras on the São Paulo Stock Exchange).
- Currency pairs use the "=X" suffix (e.g., EURUSD=X for Euro to US Dollar exchange rate).
- Indices use the "^" prefix (e.g., ^SPX for the S&P 500, the default market benchmark).
- Crypto uses the "-" pair format (e.g., BTC-USD for Bitcoin in US Dollars).
- ETFs and mutual funds use their Yahoo Finance tickers as well.
Stock and ETF prices are adjusted for splits, but not for dividends. To quote a ticker in another currency, or to buy a fraction of an expensive asset, see Modifiers.
